Mammalian immune system has evolved to fight against a wide variety of pathogens but the fascinating aspect is it is still evolving with outbreak of infections caused by novel pathogens. A set number of immune cells has the ability to not only fight against countless infections but also protect the hosts from any future infection. Our lab is studying how one naïve T cell can differentiate into an effector cell to fight an infection and a memory cell to protect from future infections.
